How hard can it be to say these two words?

To your partner upon waking up? To your children? To your neighbour? To the stranger that you saw on your morning walk?  To the chap at your favourite cafe that made your morning coffee fix? Or when you got to work, to the receptionist at the front desk, or the people working on the production lines. How many opportunities have you had in just the past few hours this this morning, to say "Good Morning" to someone ... and haven't?

Some years back I heard a lovely story that has left an impression every since. A young lady was sharing about how much she loved her job. You could see it in her face and in the enthusiasm in her voice. Another woman asked her, "what is it that you love so much about it?" Her response left the group speechless. "Oh, its because my boss say's Good Morning to me, every day". That was it. My Boss Say's GOOD MORNING to me every day.

Once the group had gotten over their initial response, the young lady was asked to explain. Surely, having her boss say good morning couldn't be all it took to make her love her job. The young lady went on to explain. In her previous job, a company she'd been with for around 6 years, she'd loved the work she did. She'd been a great performer, loved her customers and regularly topped the company sales results. Yet, in all the years she had worked with this company, the boss had never said Good Morning to her. NEVER. When asked how this had made her feel, she became visibly emotional, before saying "I felt like I didn't matter".

Let's just ponder those words. "I felt like I didn't matter".

This is true story. Sadly, it is not a unique one. It is happening everyday all around us. It is impacting on lives in ways that needn't be. Two words - and if one is feeling brave they could try adding a smile - are enough to make some feel like they matter - or not.

Tomorrow morning, have a go. Set yourself a secret target. How many people will you say "Good Morning" to? Try it with a smile? Give it a go, you may even get a few "Good Mornings" in return!
